The holidays may be months away, but the early birds will catch the best deals on holiday flights. Travel website Skyscanner.com analyzed flight booking data from 2015 to find out when consumers were able to land the best deals on airfare.
Thanksgiving travel: Book in October
Skyscanner found people saved 5% on flights by booking Thanksgiving week flights in the middle of October. But the biggest savings were found at the end of October. The week of Oct. 31, travelers saved 7.7%.
Christmas: Book during Thanksgiving
While you’re busy with Thanksgiving dinner preparations, find time to focus on your Christmas holiday travel plans. Skyscanner found people saved the most (6.41%) when they booked Thanksgiving week. The first week of December was the next best window, with savings of nearly 5%.
New Year’s: Early December is best
Make your New Year’s Eve plans by early December and you could save big on airfare. Skyscanner found people saved over 10% booking during the first week of December last year. There are also deals for last-minute fliers. People who booked flights one week before New Year’s Eve saved 6.72%.
